When a client says, "analyze phone bill" we say "not enough" |

A
telecom audit and network optimization is much more than the three
words, analyze phone bill. When a client asks for that, a
true telecom consultant should cringe. The reason is the phone
bill portion of the telecom audit only scratches th surface.
While it's true that
errors still exist in phone bills which is why you would analyze a
phone bill, there are many more ways to reduce telecom expense and
this mainly has to do with optimizing elements of the client's telecom
network. This falls more under the sub-category, telecom inventory
management.
The main purpose of
telecommunication inventory management is to eliminate waste, and we
like to use this simple example. An employee gets sick and tired
of receiving bogus fax spam and throws her fax machine out the window.
She then downloads eFax into her desktop and now she doesn't have to
waste time and toner on stupid, unwanted faxes.
But, alas, she
forgets to cancel the POTS line since the plug is hidden behind her
credenza. Month after month, your company accumulates a $30 charge
because someone forgot to cancel a line.
When you optimize
your telecom network, you eliminate this and many other types of waste.
You may be charged for circuits you cancelled years ago. Or for
circuits you never ordered in the first place. You may have an an
opportunity to reduce telecom cost by changing your bandwidth
requirements. It could be something as simple as bundling 18 POTS
lines only a T-1 or PRI, creating instant monthly savings.
The main reason waste
typically abounds in organization is the fact that over the past two
decades there has been so much growth. It gets to he point that
you don't know exactly what you have, where it is, and how it's used.
This is why with the modern telecom audit and network optimization,
waste is the first thing we attack. That is where the telecom
expense reduction takes place.
